Crouching Kitty, Hidden Danger

I’m in the minority in the sense that my affinity for dogs is edged, ever so slightly, by my love for cats. Cats provide, seemingly, effortless entertainment value. They give off a nonchalant mystique which leaves us wanting more; I mean, there’s a reason the term, “cool cat,” was coined. However,  it’s ironic how uncool it’d be to use that term today and  it’s possible the word ,”cool,” is no longer, “cool,” either.

Most interestingly, as one gets lost in the eyes of a cat while it purrs rhythmically atop your chest, there’s a cold reality which lurks in the back of ones mind. A  fleeting thought may flash before each of your eyes, simultaneously; the thought that says, “If you were the size of the average dog, you’d happily tear me to shreds for sport.” That’s right, cats are ruthless, efficient, perfect killers and it’s part of what we admire about them. The relationship often seems one sided as if they know how to  leave us wanting more.

So here’s to the powerful beauty of Felis Catus. With this pop art portrait I’ve endeavored to capture that unique essence in the subtle sublimity of watercolor. The majestic Great Dane

A Great Dane stands, majestically, before a cloudy background. This piece was created using my new “Spectra” technique, in which a Graphite drawing is washed in vivid, full spectrum, watercolors. I find this style of art quite fitting for me and would like to stick to it, as long as there’s a demand for it.
